There’s a buzz in the air. Two bank holidays in a row is a treat, but history being made is even more thrilling. On Saturday 6th May, HRH King Charles III will officially be given his regal powers.  

You may be taking to the streets to celebrate, seeing family and friends and even treating yourself to a cheeky glass of bubbly. It’s never too early in the summer season for strawberries and cream, either. 

To mark the grand occasion, many companies are offering great deals for the Coronation weekend. Here are some we’ve found. 

£2 coach tickets 

Coach company FlixBus is slashing the price of its coach tickets to just £2. New routes from Peterborough and Stevenage, and the Bristol to London route are included in the offer. Alongside cutting prices, the company is also increasing the number of coaches on these routes from four to seven buses per day across the weekend. 

Need another route? No problem! FlixBus is offering a 20% discount on all other routes – there are over 50 altogether, with another 19 news routes being put into operation today. 

The firm have said they want to encourage travel across the country for the occasion. Similarly, you can not only travel more cheaply, but avoid any rail strikes or delays.

Free railcards 

To celebrate the coronation of HRH King Charles III, National Rail is giving away 100 free Railcards. There’s no better way to celebrate the Bank Holiday than saving a third on your next rail adventure.   

The FREE Railcards are only available to those boasting ‘regal’ First & Middle, or First and Last names relating to the new Monarch.  

Acknowledging that most non-royals do not have four first and middle names, Railcard is offering those with similar namesakes to His Royal Highness Charles Philip the chance to access their own discounted (train) carriage.

BBC licence fee scrapped 

We wish we could say this was going to make an impact on our personal finances, but it’s still interesting all the same. The BBC is going to suspend the licence fee as part of a one-off for the King’s Coronation weekend. 

This will allow public venues to screen the Coronation ceremony and the concert the following day, without needing to purchase a TV licence.  

According to the BBC, this has been granted due to exceptional circumstance, with the event of high national importance.

Get £100 for your name 

A jeweller in Sheffield is offering £100 to anyone named Charles or Camilla in a right royal stunt. Beaverbrooks in Meadowhall has said the amount can be spent on a collection of jewellery, watches and diamonds, two days before the Coronation. 

What’s the catch? You need to be the first person at the jeweller on Saturday 6th May to claim the prize. There is one winner per store, with another branch in Doncaster. The gift card must also be spent that day. 

Eligible names also include Charlie, Charly, Charley, Charli, Charlee and Charleigh. Camille, however, will not be accepted. Remember to take photographic ID! A passport, driving licence, and formal ID badges for the armed forces, police and student unions will be accepted. 

Which King Charles collectables will make you money?

Battersea Power Station’s royal knees up 

On the 6th and 7th May, Battersea Power Station is streaming the Coronation Ceremony live, so you can watch the King and his consort get crowned on the big screen. Bring your own picnic or visit one of the many bars and restaurants on-site, including Pret and M&S Foodhall. 

There will be plenty of entertainment too. Musical performances include tribute acts to British Icons (did someone say Spice Girl tribute?!), as well as puppet shows, balloon artists and face painting. Perfect for all the family.

Ride a horse-drawn carriage 

Transport giant Uber have announced they will be offering horse-drawn carriage rides to celebrate the coronation. The replica royal carriage will be situated at Dulwich Park in London, for three days before the new King is crowned. 

Want to feel like royalty? Bookings can be made in person for rides between 1pm and 4pm from 3rd to 5th May. It is not yet known how much rides will cost. 

All carriages will be pulled by four horses, dressed up in Coronation wear. The carriage will have comfortable and plush seats fit for a monarch.
